History
Valley Oaks Golf Course is located in the City of Visalia’s Plaza Park, one of the 32 parks of Visalia. Originally an 18 hole course, the Lakes nine was added in 1996 to complete the now 27 holes of great golf. In 2000, CourseCo Inc, was selected to manage the golf facility and was awarded a ten year contract with two additional five year options. Since 2000, CourseCo Inc, has overseen dramatic improvements to the operation and condition of Valley Oaks, and the changes have been exciting.
Some of the more notable achievements are in the following areas:
Junior Golf
Since 2000 Valley Oaks Golf Course has provided the largest junior golf program in the area. Over 400 participants between the ages of 7 and 18 took part in varying Junior Programs in 2004 alone. Through a cooperative effort with the Visalia parks and recreation department, the Visalia unified school district, and the Valley Oaks Golf Course, the new junior programs now provide the foundation for channeling local youth involvement into the game of golf. Junior clinics are scheduled on weekends year round and junior golf camps are held throughout the summer. We also administer a competitive and enjoyable traveling junior league throughout the summer for advanced golfers in preparation for high school golf teams.
Women’s’ Golf
In 2003, Valley Oaks Golf Course proudly coordinated and guided an initiative that formed the first girls’ high school and junior college golf teams in Visalia’s history. A group effort between the golf course, school district, city management, and concerned citizens created the foundation for the program and continues to collectively support a rapidly growing interest in women’s golf in the area.
Professional Instruction
Valley Oaks Golf Course is fortunate to have Mike Roberson, the 2004 Northern California Section’s PGA Instructor of the Year, heading our instruction program. We provide individual and group lessons, business seminars, junior golf camps, advanced golf camps, and junior golf leagues. Mike also provides monthly golf lesson tips for local publications.
Community Involvement
Valley Oaks Golf Course provides great value and quality service for over 30 local charities each year that raise funds for local needs. The course is home to three high school teams and a junior college team. Through our discount programs we provide daily practice facilities and course access for school matches, instruction, and regional tournaments. Valley Oaks is also proud to host four annual amateur events: Tulare County Amateur, City of Visalia Amateur, Tulare County 4 Ball, and Visalia City Junior Championship.
With accomplishments like these, it’s easy to see why Valley Oaks’ popularity is reaching new highs. Call today to book your tee time or lessons at 559-651-1441!
